Attend in-person intern orientation event at US LBM headquarters
Attend at least one meeting with an executive leader
Conduct 3 informational interviews within their field of interest
Complete at least one project by the end of their internship
Attend weekly virtual learning labs

Internships are important to the future of the workforce because they provide us with a way to bridge the gap between what we’ve learned in school, and what the workforce actually consists of, It is a time for us to be able to make mistakes and learn from these mistakes as we are guided through real work scenarios and tasks. Without internships, it would be much more difficult to be set up for success by diving into the workforce straight after finishing our education.
This internship program created an environment where learning was encouraged, questions were welcomed, and real responsibility was entrusted to interns. The level of support and exposure allowed me to build confidence and apply what I was learning in real time. I would absolutely recommend this internship program to other students. It is well-structured, hands-on, and offers genuine insight into the industry. The company culture promotes growth, accountability, and professional development, which made the experience both rewarding and impactful. The support I received during my internship played a significant role in my decision to accept a full-time position with US LBM.
My favorite thing about my internship so far is the willingness of my coworkers and management to support me and help me grow. They strongly encourage me to be the best truss designer I can be while giving me the tools to constantly improve. This is extremely important to me as it allows me to achieve my maximum potential.
During my MBA I had the opportunity to intern with Operations team and the Mergers & Acquisitions team which eventually led me to a permanent role at US LBM. Around every corner of this company, I have been met with ambitious and supportive people who want to help foster this next generation of talent. I could not be more thankful to the wonderful people who have taken me under their wing, and the program that helped to facilitate that. A mantra of the M&A team is that talent is our company’s greatest asset. As cliché as that sounds, US LBM truly does believe it.
Joining this internship program has been an incredible journey so far. This internship program was not only very beneficial to beginning my career but it allowed me to build my network as a recent college graduate.
